Pipster Terms & Conditions

These are the terms you agree to when you use Pipster. They say what you can expect from the app, what is expected of you, and what happens to your account and your match records. The Privacy Policy sits alongside them and covers what is stored and who can see it; it forms part of these terms.
Who we are
Pipster is run by an individual, not a company. “We” and “us” mean that person and the service at pipster.club ; “you” means whoever is using it. If you need to reach a person, use the Contact us link on the home screen.
Accepting these terms
You accept these terms when you create an account — that is what the checkbox on the sign-up screen is for. Your account records the date you accepted and the version of the policy that was current at that moment.
You can use the clock and the scoreboard without an account, and the parts of these terms that do not depend on having one still apply while you do.
Age
Pipster is not aimed at children and does not ask your age. Please don’t create an account if you are under 13, or under whatever age you can agree to terms like these where you live. If you are a parent and would like a child’s account removed, contact us and we will delete it.
Your account
There is no password
Signing in means asking for a six-digit code, which is emailed to you. The code expires within minutes, works once, and stops working after five wrong guesses; a signed-in session lasts 30 days. The practical consequence is worth stating plainly: whoever can read your email can get into your account . Keep that address secure, and keep it current — it is the only way back in.
One account, and it is yours
- One account per person. Don’t create several, and don’t share one.
- Anything done through your account is treated as done by you. If you think somebody else has got into it, change your email address in the app, or contact us.
- You give a real first and last name when you sign up. Don’t sign up as somebody else.
Usernames and names
Your username is 4–10 characters, unique, and chosen once at sign-up. Usernames and names are checked automatically for offensive wording, and that check is not the whole of this rule: we may reclaim or change a username, club name or profile detail that is abusive, impersonates somebody, or is chosen to mislead other players.
Playing without an account
The clock and the scoreboard work as a guest and save nothing to our servers. When a guest match finishes, Pipster offers to keep it: taking that offer stores the result on your device only , and saves it to your history once you have an account. If no account is made within a day, the kept result is discarded. Nothing about a guest match reaches us until there is an account to attach it to.
What you may not do
- Harass, abuse or impersonate anyone — in a username, a club name, an “about me”, an invitation message, or a message to us.
- Record results you did not play , or enter false scores to inflate a record or distort a club leaderboard. A shared history is only worth having if it is honest.
- Use invitations to send unwanted email. Invite people you actually play, to clubs they would actually want.
- Collect other members’ details in bulk — by scraping, by automated search, or by any other means.
- Attack or overload the service : probing for weaknesses, working around rate limits, or automating requests at a volume a person could not make. If you find a security problem, tell us — we would much rather hear it from you.
- Resell or commercialise it , or present it as your own service.
Match records belong to both players
This is the part most worth understanding, because it is not how a private record-keeping app behaves.
- A match recorded against another member is one shared record . Both of you see the score, the date, the result and which club it was for. That is what makes a result mutually attested rather than one person’s word.
- Hiding a match hides it from your view only. The other player’s copy is untouched.
- Only the player who recorded the match can delete it, and that deletes it for both of you. The app says so before you do it. If you did not record the match, delete is not offered — hiding it is what you have.
- Closing your account does not remove your matches from other people’s histories. They transfer, with your name marked “(left Pipster)”. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is kept and what is shown.
- Tags are yours alone. Whoever recorded the match is the only person who sees them.
We do not arbitrate disputes about results. If a score is wrong, sort it out with the person you played — whoever recorded the match can delete it and record it again.
Clubs
- Anyone signed in can create a club, and whoever creates it owns it. An owner invites members, answers join requests, and can remove members.
- Sharing a club reveals your name and profile to its members , whatever your visibility setting says. Joining a club is a social act; the Privacy Policy explains the rest.
- Don’t set up a club that represents a real organisation you have nothing to do with, and don’t use a club name to claim an association you don’t have.
- You can leave a club whenever you like. An owner cannot simply walk away: hand the club to another member or delete it — which is also why closing an owner’s account is refused until one of those is done. A club with nobody administering it serves its members badly, and dissolving a group of other people without asking them would be worse.
- We may remove a club, or hand it to another member, if it is used to break these terms.
What you write
Your username, names, country, “about me”, club details, tags and messages stay yours. You give us permission to store them and to show them inside Pipster where the app needs to — your name on a club roster, your username in a search result, your tags in your own history — and nothing beyond that. We do not license your content to anyone else, and there is no advertising in the picture.
Don’t enter anything you do not have the right to enter, including somebody else’s personal details.
The service is free, and comes as it is
- There is no charge and no billing of any kind. If that ever changes you will be told in advance, and you will be able to close your account rather than pay.
- It can change. Features may be added, altered or removed, and the service may be suspended or stopped altogether. Where a change would lose data, we will give notice if we can.
- There is no guaranteed availability. It runs on one small server. The database is backed up nightly and those backups are kept for 14 days, but backups exist to restore the service after a failure — they are not a guarantee that nothing is ever lost.
- It is provided as it is , without warranties, to the extent the law allows.
Suspending and closing accounts
By you
Settings → Delete account , at any time and without asking us. It cannot be undone, and the Privacy Policy sets out precisely what is deleted, what transfers to the players you played, and why.
By us
We may disable or delete an account that breaks these terms. A disabled account cannot sign in. Where the problem is not serious we will say what is wrong first; where it is — abuse of another member, an attack on the service — we may act immediately. If you think an account was disabled in error, contact us and a person will read it.
Liability
Pipster is a free app run by one person in their own time. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost matches, lost time, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using it or from being unable to use it.
Privacy
The Privacy Policy forms part of these terms. It covers what is collected, who can see what, which third parties are involved, and what happens to your data when you delete your account. It is worth reading before you sign up rather than after.
Changes to these terms
The version date at the top changes when this document does. If something changes in a way that affects you materially, we will say so in the app or by email rather than leaving you to notice it. Using Pipster after a change means accepting the version then current; if you would rather not, you can close your account.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of Aotearoa New Zealand, and its courts deal with any dispute about them. If you use Pipster as a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away any protection your own country’s law gives you that cannot be signed away.
If any part of this document turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of it still stands.
